Social Security programs are not the same in every country. In terms of U.S. dollars the United States Social Security Program is the biggest government program in the world. Every person who pays taxes in America pays some of their personal income to help fund Social Security.

One of this country's best-known Founding Fathers was Ben Franklin. Mr. Franklin was a pretty smart guy, known for his political insight and witty commentary. One of his many notable quotes is, “In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes.” What Ben meant by that statement is that taxes are a necessary part of civilized society and play an important role in maintaining many social services.
